As festival Chair, I’m excited to tell you why this year’s Spirit of Monticello Festival will simply be the best ever! First of all, the logistics have greatly improved with the completion of our Constitution Plaza area. The Food Court will be located just north of the County Building making it more centrally located to the Gazebo, Main Stage and the Beer & Wine Garden. Also, the Art/Craft Vendor booths will be situated to provide a more organized way to display their wares. The newly redecorated Gazebo will provide an old time, yesteryear feeling that will bring spectators closer together while watching their friends and loved ones participate in events at the Gazebo.
The committee is excited about tapping into the talent of the community and that’s why we are bringing back, by popular demand, our “Bring S.O.M. Talent Contest. This year, we’ve created two age groups, 18 & Under and 19 & Over. Hopefully, this year, we’ll get even more young talent to come forward and compete with performers more their own age. We’ve also created two categories, Vocal & Non-Vocal. This will once again provide a fair playing field for all the participants. This year we are giving away $1,400.00 in prize money to the finalists on Saturday night! Auditions will begin the first Tuesday in June and will be held at the Brandywine Inn on Tuesday evenings throughout the month. The Semi-finalist and final rounds will be held on the bandstand during the festival. Judges will be looking for stage presence, technical ability, creativity and the overall ability to wow the crowd. Rules and entry forms can be found on the website.
We’re also bringing back our 2nd annual City Wide Yard Sale on both Friday & Saturday. In addition, there will be a “Flea Market “area located on the east end of Broadway during the festival. Details can be found on the website.
Our selection of local and surrounding live bands hopes to bring you to the festival to sing and dance along with them. So, bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the great music for two days, but bring your dancing shoes because you’ll need them!
We’re also expanding our Children’s Play area this year to provide an even better selection of kids’ games and things to do. And of course, it wouldn’t be a festival for the kids without the Petting Zoo for them to pet and feed the animals!
If you’re into Classic Cars, you’re in for a treat! We’ll be having a Cruise-In on Friday night and a huge Car Show on Saturday with 65 total awards to be given out on Saturday. So come check out all the cool rides!
But, the most important thing I’m excited about, is working with the very talented and very dedicated Spirit Committee that we’ve put together for this year! We’re going to work harder than ever to put on the best and most family oriented festival you’ve ever attended!
Last but not least, kudos to our webmaster Jason Harrison at www.BrowCo.com who puts in countless number of hours making sure the website is providing all the latest news, events, sponsorships and vendor information. The website for the festival is: www.spiritofmonticello.org.Please check it out!
The Spirit of Monticello Festival is all about bringing the community together for two days. So, please come out on Friday, June 26th & Saturday, June 27th and be a part of this great event!
