The Spirit of Monticello Festival
Entertaining You All Weekend Long!

This years Spirit of Monticello Festival promises to be better than ever with a weekend of music, contests, and fun family memories!
Kicking off the festival at 5 PM Friday, June 28th is the acoustic styling of Clint Brandt on the NIPSCO Bandstand.
Pick up your dinner at the festival food court. Grab a beverage from the regionally famous People’s Brewing Co. Beer Garden and relax as you stroll through the streets of Monticello or sit and listen to the music. Take the kids to the Petting Zoo, play games or browse the wide variety of arts & crafts vendors (both Friday and Saturday!).
The Spirit of Monticello Car Cruise-In will begin at 5 PM and be ongoing throughout the evening. Patrons can pick their favorite auto up close before Saturday’s competition.
Those Tennis enthusiasts will ‘love’ the ‘volley’ of the ball in the fast paced Tennis Tournament at the Twin Lakes High School Courts that begins Friday night and continues Saturday morning.
Why not enjoy some dessert after dinner, musical dessert that is…enjoy Flap Jacks as they perform on the NIPSCO Bandstand at 7:00 PM.
Friday’s crowd will come to a crescendo at 8:30 PM with the Men’s Hairy Leg Contest. This hilarious competition is open to all men 18 and older and has a cast of local celebrity judges. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt with first place receiving a cash prize of $100. Come on guy’s show us what you got!
Friday’s events will wrap up as EZRA takes center stage on the NIPSCO Bandstand to rock us till the early morning.
For those early risers, Saturday’s events start off with a 5K Run/Walk, Tennis Tournament and Community Yard Sale. Don’t forget to swing by the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at 8 AM.
The Festival Food Court, games and Arts & Craft vendors open at 9 AM. Come to the courthouse lawn and relax in your lawn chair as you watch the cars start rollin’ in for the Car Show Saturday 10 AM – 4 PM.
Starting the Family Fun contests on Saturday is a festival favorite Endless Cake Walk. Beginning at 11 AM and ongoing throughout the day, this family fun event will ask participants to stand on a number and walk to the beat. Winners receive gifts provided by local merchants and businesses.
Check the schedule of events for our famous Bubble Gum Blowing Contest, open to children 15 and below.
Don’t fill up on too much food if you plan on entering the Pizza Speed Eating Contest sponsored by downtown eatery Abe’s Pizza. This competition asks entrants to eat the pie in record time! Classes include (10 and under), (11 to 16), and (17 and above).
Check out the street in front of the NIPSCO Bandstand as it comes to life with the youth Jump Rope Contest. Open to children 15 and below, the last one jumping will be heralded the winner.
In the afternoon when the sun is hot, join the Water Balloon Tossing Contest. Teams can include both 2 children or adult and child.
You won’t want to miss the youth Hula Hoop Contest. Open to children 15 and below, participants will have to out hoop some pretty tough competition to be pronounced the winner.
The highlight of the Festivals Saturday family fun contests will be the “Hog A Dog” Speed Eating Competition sponsored by local hot spot Sycamore Drive In. Classes for this event are (10 and under), (11 to 16), and (17 and older). This is too hilarious to miss!
Then opening at 5 PM and pouring throughout the evening will be the People’s Brewing Co. Beer Garden. Serving up a selection of brews to festival patrons 21 years and older. Grab a cold drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and watch the stage explode, as L.J. Johnson kicks off Saturday’s musical night at 5 PM on the NIPSCO Bandstand with his county/rock that is sure to get your feet tappin’.
Keep your ears open because we may throw the crowd for a loop and have an impromptu Adult Hoola Hoop Contest. You’re never too old to have fun!
At 7 PM hometown local favorite Cousin Eddie will take center stage to bring the people to their feet and dancing in the street.
Don’t walk away when the music is over because we are going to trump the Friday night Men’s Leg Contest this year by holding a Women’s Hot Leg Contest at 8:30 PM Saturday night, open to all women 18 and older. A cast of local celebrity judges will be scrutinizing each contestant looking for a winner for the $100 cash prize. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
Zack Day & Full Throttle keeps the energy going at 9 PM on the NIPSCO Bandstand. So come out prepared to dance to a groovy mix of classic rock and R&B favorites as he keeps us rockin’ till the midnight hour.
New this year is the “Share the Spirit” Drawing. You could win a $250 cash prize at the end of the festival…must be present to win.
